Speed Limits

Postby Mike Holland » Mon Aug 10, 2009 9:22 am

Just watched Four Corners on Channel 9, discussing the plethora of speed limits around Sydney (and Australia). What a waste of time.

A whole lot opf people expressed opinions. So what? You can always find someone to express any opinion you want. Doesn't prove anything! Why can't Channel 9 do some research, and present some facts?

I would love to see statistics of accident rates and fatalities before and after introducing various speed limits. I would love to see some justificatiion other that the money that the RTA rakes in. Anyway, if accident rates justify lower speed limits, then why not set the limit to 0kph and have no accidents at all? Or reroute all traffic away from schools?

Personally, I think it is insanity to introduce 40kph limits on main thoroughfares such as Pacific Highway and Pennant Hills road. Far better to ban kids from these busy roads. Anyway, how often do you actually see a schoolkid in the area when crawling along at 40kph?

My quality of driving has dropped remarkably over the last few years, because I am watching my speedometer when I should be watching the road. If there was a kid at the side of the road in a 40kph zone, I wouldn't see him/her - I would be checking my speed. And you can't maintain a steady speed while watching the road, because none of the roads are level, all ups and downs.

There, I've had my rant. I expect its all been said a dozen times before!

blood flow red on the highway

Brakes have only got better, cars (and scooters) safer!!! Licence training longer/harder/tighter... Rough roads sealed and straightened

Road deaths have been slowly falling from a 1973 peak (when seat belts became mandatory in new cars, and drink driving discouraged)...

Of course road traffic has rapidly been increasing at a greater rate!!!

I guess "stupidity" of riders, drivers and pedestrains is still the same????

Can't complain, unless you+your friends/family are the one's being crushed!...

Selfish git you are Mike !!!!
Bet your post would be different if you had kids ???
I do however agree that these multi speed limits are confusing and stupid
but I am all for the speed limit of 40 kmh in school zones .
When are you coming past to say hello again Mike ( it has been a while ) so I can kick you in the balls

Stupid git, Alfie, you don't know from nothin'!

I've got two kids (hardly kids any more), and five grandsons, aged 1 to 17.

Besides,
1. There are too many people in the world, and we need to have fewer kids to save the earth, and
2. Gotta let the stupid ones get killed off to maintain the quality of the species.

But I still want to see some real statistics!

Ah ha , so you have been fibbing to me all these years telling me you ain't got kids !!
So how do you define stupid kids from intelligent ones ??
We need fewer kids to save the earth hey.Sys who ?? Well what about killing old people as they are useless and cost the tax payer squillions . Oh dear that would mean the end of Mr Holland then wouldn't it ? But then again, how do you define old ??
So your decaying riding quality is pissing you off, but then again, that is part of progress, which in turn has also created medicines to increase your quality of life so that you can at least ride ( your progress induced auto scooter ) .
Just remember that little stupid kid may very well end up being the nurse hauling your sorry arse around in a wheel chair when all of a sudden 40kmh will seem like warp speed .
So Mike , when are you going to come over so I can kick you in the balls ?

Alfie, before you try kicking me anywhere, I should mention that I have a Karate blue belt and I do weightlifting, and my son is a Kung Fu instructor. So bring on your Mafia mobs.

Alfie, sorry that I did not make it. The offer of a free cappucino was very tempting. Hope you drank it before it got cold!

Anyhow, I seem to recall hearing that you had moved shop, and were now with Johnny in Brookvale - cannot recall where. Is that correct?

Mike, I think you're thinking of A Current Affair or some other Channel 9 tabloid piece of shite. Four Corners is a respected ABC show.

Although I think 40K for schools is great, I do with they weould put flashing lights on all school zone signs when school zones are in place. I don't have kids, I don't work 9to5, I have NO FREAKING IDEA when school is on or not. Saturdays and Mondays look very similar to me. I dno't want to run over kiddies but it would help if someone told me where they are!

And 40K coming off the ANZAC Bridge into the city FOR JUST 200M IS A JOKE!!! Talk about revenue raising!
Don't be afraid, I only bite a little...
